Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Review

Let me start this post by putting something out there. I love all things sparkly. If it glitters, sparkles, shines or glows – it’s for me.

If I could shower in glitter, if glitter showers were a thing where you could take a shower and step out shimmering all over (like Edward Cullen), I would have my name down for that experience in a heartbeat.

If I’m watching a makeup tutorial and the person has anything glittery happening on their face (eyeshadow, highlighter whatever it may be – I don’t discriminate in my love for glitter and shine) I’m probably not hearing a word they’re saying, I’m just staring at the source of the sparkle.

Having said that, I’m sure you can guess that my love doesn’t stop there. I can’t just look at a glowy product and admire it from afar, I must have it. Enter, one of the most beautiful highlighters known to man.

Now this post is actually going to be part one of a two part review/ode to my two favorite highlighters, at the end of which we’ll decide which one is better. Let’s go! Before we go, this post is not sponsored, I bought every product with my own money and the company has no clue I exist. Ok now let's go!

First up is the oh so beautiful Becca Shimmering Skin Perfecter Pressed in Moonstone. Uhm I love this. I love everything about it from the name to the texture to the way it looks.

Color

The color of Moonstone is like a cross between cream and light gold. More cream than gold really. Until recently, this was the lightest shade that Becca offered. They've now come out with a lighter color named Pearl. I'm quite pale but with warm yellow undertones (I haven't used Mac in a while but I think I'm an NW25 if that helps) and this is a perfect match for me. I recommend swatching just to be sure but these colors seem to be universally flattering.

Texture

The texture of this highlighter is so unbelievably soft and creamy. It’s like butter you guys. It goes on so smooth and despite being a powder, this product seems to somehow melt into my skin.

Uses

I’ve used this product to highlight the high points of my cheeks, as a brow bone highlight (very little in that specific area), to add just a little something something to the inner corners of my eyes and as  a full on eyeshadow. It works well and looks beautiful no matter how I choose to use it.
I love that you can pack this stuff on and it still wouldn’t look like too much. Some products you really need to use sparingly lest you go from glowy to clowny but this little gem gives you the freedom to play around and use as much or as little as you please.

Price

This retails at Sephora for a cool $38.

Name

Totally irrelevant but I also love the name. Moonstone. The marketing people for Becca chose this name with sheep like me in mind.

The glow this highlighter imparts has an ethereal quality to it and once it’s on, every time you glance at it you imagine devastatingly beautiful fairy creatures dancing in the moonlight, while some special fairy stone bursts as the light of the moon hits it and sends showers of sparkle down on them. If you know the kids movie that something like this happens in, we’re meant to be best friends.

Mini Opal

During the holidays I also picked up a set that had this mini version in the shade Opal and it’s just so tiny and cute! I love the color of this one too, I’d stared at the full size many a time but just couldn’t justify getting it when I had Moonstone which is the right shade for me. This comes across a bit more bronzy on my skin but still beautiful. I love them both. This came with another version of Opal, which I have yet to try.

I'm not sure why the color is coming across so similar to moonstone in the picture, Opal has quite a strong bronze tinge to it rather than the gold of Moonstone.

Liquid version

While I’m reviewing the powder version, I’ll quickly mention that these highlighters also come in a liquid version. Sadly, I do not have the same love for the liquid counterparts. I’ve tried both moonstone and opal in the liquid versions and I didn’t really enjoy them quite as much. I still had to put the powder highlight on top, without it the glow just doesn’t come through. The feel of the liquid highlighters is also a bit tacky to me, which I found strange and a bit unpleasant. I only tried sample versions and perhaps there was something wrong with the samples but I just didn’t like it much. Just my two cents. :-)

If you haven’t already, I’d say take yourself to a Sephora store, make your way to the Becca section, swatch these babies and then just stare…

  1. These Becca Skin Perfectors are tha [luminous, ethereal] BOMB. I'm happy to see them on a matching skin tone, too. ;-) I wish I had known about the mini sizes!

Perhaps you should get into belly dancing. I was a professional performer/workshop instructor/competition winner at one point and it was ALL ABOUT the glitter. Colleagues and I used to joke that we'd probably find glitter in our lungs, or vomit glitter (to be dazzlingly gross, lol).

    1. Lol the glitter in our lungs part sounds right up my alley! Unfortunately, I don't dance or even move gracefully for that matter lol so maybe I'll just dress like a belly dancer without actually doing the dancing part.

Thank you so much for your continued support my wonderful friend. :-)
